Ultra-Thin Phones Take Over Mobile World Congress as Tecno Mobile Reveals Slim 2 and Trifold Concept
Every year at Mobile World Congress (MWC), smartphone companies try to grab attention with bold innovations. This time, one clear trend stood out wherever crowds gathered — extremely thin and foldable phones. Among the brands showcasing futuristic ideas, Tecno Mobile managed to attract plenty of curiosity with its sleek concept devices that push the limits of smartphone design.
Tecno Slim 2: A Remarkably Thin Smartphone
One of the highlights at Tecno’s booth was the Tecno Slim 2, the successor to the earlier Spark Slim concept that first appeared at MWC 2025. While the previous model already impressed visitors with its slim body, the new version takes things even further.
The Slim 2 measures just 5.49mm thick, making it even slimmer than the Spark Slim’s 5.93mm frame. On paper, that difference might seem tiny, but in the world of smartphone engineering, shaving off even a fraction of a millimeter is a huge achievement.
The phone also features super-thin 0.7mm bezels, creating a more immersive display experience. The narrow borders make the screen feel larger and more modern, which is something many smartphone users appreciate.
Despite its ultra-slim body, the Slim 2 still manages to pack impressive hardware. According to the device’s settings menu shown at the event, it includes:
- 6,150mAh battery
- 50MP main rear camera
- 13MP secondary camera
For a phone this thin, fitting such a large battery capacity is particularly impressive. It shows how manufacturers are improving internal component design to maintain performance while reducing thickness.
Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold: A Thin Trifold Concept
Tecno also introduced another futuristic concept device called the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold. Instead of focusing only on thinness, this phone takes innovation a step further with a trifold design.
When unfolded, the device is just 3.49mm thick, which is incredibly slim. When folded, it becomes 11.49mm thick, still comparable to many standard smartphones.
The phone opens into a large 9.94-inch display, giving it a tablet-like experience. The unfolding mechanism makes it resemble a compact tablet that folds like a brochure, offering both portability and a large screen.
As with many foldable phones today, the crease on the display is still visible, although it is not overly distracting. The concept phone reportedly includes:
- Triple rear camera system (50MP)
- 5,750mAh battery
Earlier statements from Tecno suggested the battery would be over 5,000mAh, which aligns with the specs shown on the device.
The Growing Trend of Thinner Smartphones
Although both the Slim 2 and Phantom Ultimate G Fold are still concept devices, they clearly reflect a growing trend in the smartphone industry — making devices thinner and lighter.
Several major brands have already started moving in this direction. Companies like Apple, Samsung, and Motorola have all introduced slimmer smartphones in recent years. The goal is to appeal to users who prefer lightweight and pocket-friendly devices, even if it means slightly compromising on battery size or camera complexity.
Foldable phones are also following this trend. New models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor Magic V6, and Oppo Find N5 are significantly thinner than earlier generations.
Meanwhile, trifold phones are quickly becoming a new area of experimentation. Devices such as the Huawei Mate XT and the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold have sparked plenty of discussion about the future of foldable technology.
Will These Tecno Concepts Become Real Products?
For now, Tecno’s Slim 2 and Phantom Ultimate G Fold remain experimental prototypes designed to showcase the company’s engineering capabilities. There is no confirmation yet on whether these devices will reach the market.
However, concept phones often serve as a preview of what’s coming next in the smartphone world. If the current trend continues, ultra-thin and flexible devices could soon become a common sight in stores.
